Course Description: Graduate Certificate in eLearning

Transforming education for the future

HELI’s Graduate Certificate in eLearning (GCeL) course is designed by industry and education experts for anyone who wants to build a foundation in technology-supported learning, education and digital learning design and development. Transfer to the Master of eLearning is available.

It is a six-month full-time or equivalent part-time course to provide graduates with the requisite eLearning knowledge, skills and understanding to work effectively in academic or workplace learning and development settings. Teaching and learning activities have been arranged to foster progressive and coherent achievement of expected course and subject learning outcomes regardless of a student’s place of study or the mode of study. 

This course will suit anyone who wants to pursue a career in learning design, digital learning project management and leadership in academic and related professional learning or corporate learning settings or anyone who wants to enhance their skills and understanding in eLearning to progress in their existing role.

To qualify for the award, students are required to successfully complete the four (4) core units listed below (equivalent to a total of 24 credit points).

While not mandatory, it is recommended that students complete the course by following the unit sequence in the table below. Units denoted by (^) are delivered online and face-to-face; units denoted by (ᴼ) are only delivered online.

The Graduate Certificate in eLearning has been accredited by TEQSA. The Higher Education Leadership Institute (HELI) is an institution of higher education aimed at serving targeted industry, higher education, and government education needs. HELI’s selected programs are aimed at enhancing data-based decision-making and delivery of education and development programs across education and business sectors to meet today’s organisational development needs.

Admission and English Language Requirements

The following academic admission criteria apply to all applicants to courses at HELI that lead to the award of a Graduate Certificate qualification (AQF Level 8). Additional English language requirements for international students are provided in tab below.

Admission will be granted to applicants who meet any ONE of the following criteria:

  • Successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree (AQF 7) or higher from a recognised institution; OR
  • Successfully completed a 3-year Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma (AQF 6) with a credit average (or equivalent); OR
  • Successfully completed a 2-year Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma (AQF 6) with a credit average (or equivalent) and one year full-time relevant professional work experience; OR
  • Successfully completed a Diploma (AQF 5) plus two years full-time relevant professional work experience; OR
  • Completed a recognised postgraduate preparation program; OR
  • Three years of full-time managerial/professional work experience in a related field; OR
  • Five years of full-time general work experience in a related field.

Applicants with international qualifications not delivered in English must demonstrate English equivalency as follows:

  • Academic IELTS: 6.5 or higher overall with no band lower than 6.0; OR
  • IBT (Internet-based TOEFL) overall score of 79 with a writing section minimum of 21 and speaking 18; OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Overall score 180, writing and speaking 180; OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Overall 176 with a writing and speaking minimum score of 169; OR
  • PTE Academic Module with a minimum score of 58 with a writing and speaking section minimum of 50; OR
  • English For Academic Purposes Level 2 (EAP 2): Upper Intermediate ‘A’ grade or higher with IELTS 6.5 requirement.

Study Pathways

This course also enables the students to proceed to Master of eLearning. HELI offers a pathway to Master of eLearning and an exceptional eLearning and digital experience with the combination of unique methodology, contemporary theory and industry practice.

FEE-HELP (For Domestic Students)

FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan available to eligible students enrolled in HELI Courses in order to help pay all or part of their tuition fees.

FEE-HELP is available for all Units of Study for eligible students.
